Shoes
By R James Sennett Jr
Shoes
at one time
weren’t worn.
Grass, dirt and rocks
scratched, cut and bruised
but
was expected.
Shoes skipped into our lives
and like language,
eventually became contracted
and constrained.
Ironic
as they were meant
to be more.
Kids peel off shoes
at the drop of a hat.
They know
because they’re closer
to the ground.
