Painted Rocks

By R James Sennett Jr

Painted rocks make terrible weapons
crouching cursing beside similarly hued dying tulips
giving way to gravity’s heat.
No aerodynamics.
They just don’t ping right
or skip across a pond
or sound good underfoot.
So what good are they?
A spectrum’s gooey pallet dumped on them in dizzying array.
Who would think it a good idea?
Billions of years
waiting for someone to talk about them.
Patience.
