Breadcrumbs for Starving Birds

Smiling across the ravine,
snow-cloaked footbridge.
Prickly ropes slick with ice,
snow-clad boards pepper sprinkled
with raccoon tracks, virgin markers,
a fresh first trail.
Across and safe,
I toss yellow breadcrumbs
onto white snow for starving birds.
