Born and raised in Louisville, M.J. Downing is a recent retiree from the faculty of Jefferson Community and Technical College, where he taught composition and literature classes. He is married and lives with his wife, Amy, a cat named Gray, and a dog named Grumpy. He is a client of the Aponte Literary Group, which promote his fiction and is published through Burns and Lea Books.
Downing’s works are speculative fiction, for the most part, blending myth, mystery, and spirituality in plots that focus on the transformation of his characters. For Downing, there is no plot worth working out that isn’t about redemption, which takes many forms, is sometimes not pretty, but is always worth following.
