A native of Nashville, she started out writing Young Adult paranormal romance, and fell in love with the publishing side of the business. “Pretty quickly I realized I wanted to be able to both write and help other authors seek publication for their work,” she added.
Corvisiero Literary Agency was founded in 2011-2012 by Marisa Corvisiero. Prior to opening her own boutique agency, Marisa was an agent for the L. Perkins Agency. In early 2013, Cate applied for an internship with the agency and after that was asked to stay on as an apprentice agent to work closely with Marisa, and Saritza Hernandez. “I became a Junior Agent last March and officially opened to queries,” Cate said. “I signed my first client at the end of March.”
But becoming a writer and an agent all makes sense. Cate was an avid reader as a child, probably because her mother was a fifth- and sixth-grade reading teacher. “And her enthusiasm filtered down to me. “Where the Red Fern Grows”, “Anne of Green Gables” and Nancy Drew are some of my earliest and fondest books.”
Cate became aware of Killer Nashville through fellow workshop presenter Rae Ann Parker. She also met Killer Nashville Special Programs Coordinator Beth Terrell-Hicks through the Music City Romance Writers of America Chapter. It was Beth who invited Cate and Rae Ann to present a workshop at the conference. “It was a blast and I’ve attended the conference three years in a row,” she said.
Cate is looking for Middle Grade, YA, New Adult and select adult romance. She is open to fantasy, mystery, adventure, historical, and any combination of these genres, as well as, erotic romance, diverse characters and LGBTQ. She will accept very select historical non-fiction.
“Qualities I look for in authors are professionalism, strong knowledge of the market and /or genre they write for, openness to take suggestions and turn their story into the best possible version,” she said.
